My name is Michelle Cox and I have nearly 20 years experience as
a writer, editor and public relations specialist. Simply put --
I am a former print journalist turned freelance writer and communications
consultant, having managed a freelance writing and public relations
business for more than a decade. I also have experience as a senior
account executive with nationally-recognized public relations firm
based in St. Louis, Missouri.
As an independent journalist, I consider myself part
of the “general
assignment” category. I’m an enterprising writer who
enjoys covering a wide range of topics including, but not limited
to, healthcare, children and family, fitness, entertainment, travel,
real estate and business. I possess solid research skills, and I’m
highly skilled at gathering and synthesizing information,
and then turning that information into meaningful, well-written
stories.
As a corporate writer, I have worked with healthcare
organizations, financial services firms, biotech leaders
and real estate companies.
I’ve written annual reports, newsletter articles, speeches
and overviews of labor negotiations. I have extensively
covered the HIPAA legislation, have translated Medicare issues
into understandable
language and have found ways to personalize complicated
financial topics.
As a communications consultant, I help my clients develop
communications plans, and then execute against those plans
to effectively communicate
with their internal and external audiences. I have experience
writing newsletters, press releases, annual reports, Web
site copy, blog
postings, award entries and media pitches.
I am the mother of three children, an avid runner who’s completed
two marathons, an amateur photographer and a “professional” scrapbooker.
